Manufacturing group modernises its data platform on Databricks for plant-level intelligence

A diversified manufacturing group broke down silos across plants and moved to a single Databricks lakehouse, enabling data products for every business area.

CLIENT SNAPSHOT

Diversified manufacturing group · 18 plants across India and Southeast Asia · Mix of ERP, MES and IoT sources

HEADLINE RESULTS

What changed in production.

0012,000+ business users onboarded on the new platform
002New environment setup in under 2 hours, previously several days
0031 PB+ of data brought under a single governed lakehouse
004Data product model built around plants, products and customers
01 / THE CHALLENGE

Where the pressure started.

Each plant kept its own reporting, licensing costs on legacy warehouses climbed every year, and integration with external partner systems was fragile. There was no single, governed truth for plant OEE, quality yields or order fulfilment. Any modern platform had to scale to structured and semi-structured data at the same time and cut time-to-market for new analytics use cases.

02 / WHAT WE DID

Designed for the real operating environment.

  • Set up a Databricks lakehouse on Azure with medallion architecture across bronze, silver and gold layers.
  • Migrated legacy warehouses and file-based feeds to Delta Lake with automated data quality and reconciliation.
  • Modelled data as products aligned to business domains — plants, products, customers, suppliers — with clear ownership.
  • Applied Unity Catalog for governance, access control and lineage across every asset.
  • Integrated MES and IoT feeds for near-real-time plant metrics alongside batch ERP data.
  • Set up Power BI and Databricks SQL as the front-end tools, so business and analyst users chose the interface that suited them.
03 / OUTCOMES

The result is more than a platform.

↗ One golden source across manufacturing, sales and supply chain.
↗ New environments and workspaces created in a fraction of the previous time.
↗ Data products consumed across BI, advanced analytics and integrations with partner systems.
↗ Licensing and infrastructure costs reduced by moving off proprietary warehouses.
↗ The platform now supports the group's first ML use cases in predictive maintenance and demand forecasting.
